A Charlotte Mason Community Serving The Brazos Valley & Surrounding Areas

Who We Are

Scale How Cottage School aims to build and support a close-knit community of families who are actively striving to implement a living education using Charlotte Mason's methods. Through our structured school days, we provide a feast of subjects, by form, that are outlined in her curriculum. The selected subjects are taught using Mason's methods and are extended upon by
families at home during "off" weeks. In addition to lessons, structured days provide refreshment, community interaction, and inspiration for all.

About
Charlotte Mason

Charlotte Mason (1842-1923) was a Christian educator, teacher, governess, educational philosopher, and leader of the Parents’ National Educational Union, which was dedicated to educating students in a manner consistent with their personhood. She held firmly to the belief that all children can learn regardless of social class, pedigree, or upbringing. Out of this conviction comes a pedagogy in which students encounter knowledge for themselves as teachers support the engagement of mind-to-mind interactive learning with authors, composers, artists, and one another. Over her 60+ years career, Charlotte Mason wrote six volumes on education which can now be accessed as the Charlotte Mason’s Original Homeschooling Series.

Offerings

Charlotte Mason's 20th principle said: "We allow no separation to grow up between the intellectual and 'spiritual' life of children, but teach them that the Divine Spirit has constant access to their spirits, and is their Continual Helper in all the interests, duties and joys of life."

Mother Culture

Mother Culture Evenings are a time to gather with other Charlotte Mason moms for book discussion, craft or presentation, food & drink, and to enjoy each other’s company. We typically meet once a month.

We also have a reading group that mothers are invited to participate in. It encourages community reading in a variety of genres

throughout the year,

The goal of Nature Days is to gather with other Charlotte Mason homeschool families and allow
time for our children to notice, make connections, and wonder about the many interesting things
found in nature.

Field Trips

We take one field trip per term.

Our past trips have included Waco Mammoth National Monument, and The Jersey Barnyard.

Quotes

We were all meant to be naturalists, each in his degree, and it is inexcusable to live in a world so full

of the marvels of plant and animal life and to care for none of these things.”
